Pit depth and overhead clearance are in accordance with ANSI code requirements. Local codes may vary these requirements. A pit ladder (by others) is required.
ANSI code requires that hoistways of elevators shall be provided with means to prevent the accumulation of smoke and hot gases in case of fire as required by the building code.
A 115 VAC GFI outlet and lights are required in the pit, and separate 115 VAC circuit to the elevator controller (by others).
Hoistway walls must support anchor forces. Forces to be specified by MEI on elevator layout drawing based on specific design conditions.
Pit floor must be adequately reinforced to transmit jack, buffer, and safety setting forces. Forces to be specified by MEI on elevator layout drawing based on specific design conditions.
Only elevator related equipment allowed in hoistway or equipment room.
